Welcome

Welcome to the information page of the Danish Herpes Virus Group (DHVG) and its activities in Denmark.


Mission statement

The DHVG was founded in 1997. The aim is to conduct activities that will lead to:

  • Increased knowledge of herpesviruses

  • Further understanding of the different problems related to herpesviruses

  • Increased prevention and improved treatment of patients with herpesvirus infections.

Activities

Through its activities, the DHVG aims to:

  • Ensure a common line in the total package of guidelines, not only across specialities but also with regard to international guidelines

  • Ensure establishment of task groups (project groups) dealing with the elaboration of Danish guidelines for treatment of herpesvirus infections within relevant specialities, and to ensure that these guidelines are approved by relevant scientific societies

  • Inform relevant physicians in Denmark about the guidelines

  • Provide workshops for relevant physicians and advisers in Denmark.

DHVG is scientifically independent of company interests. A Glaxo Wellcome supported foundation contributes financially to the secretariat of DHVG.


Completed and on-going activities

  • Elaboration of a brief summary of genital herpes for Epi-Nyt (a weekly newsletter from the Danish State Serum Institute)

  • In 1999, three major meetings were conducted for GPs and specialists focusing on new aspects of herpesvirus infections

  • Publications in Ugeskrift for Laeger (a weekly magazine for physicians) concerning genital herpes in pregnant women

  • Establishment of three ad hoc groups that will elaborate guidelines for genital herpes and herpes labialis, herpes zoster and varicella, and for herpes in pregnant women
