Aims & Objectives/Mission Statement

The Czech Herpes Management Forum comprises a group of specialists focusing on current issues in the area of herpetic infections.

The aims of the Czech HMF are:

  • To improve the awareness of diagnostics and therapy of diseases caused by herpesviruses

  • To focus on all aspects of herpesvirus infections including regional, social and economic issues

  • To disseminate information on the consensus of specialists to the wider medical community.

Prague

Professor Vilma  Maresova is Head of the second Infectious Clinic of Charles University in Prague. She is a respected infectious disease expert and has been involved in the speciality for more than 20 years. She has had published a series of scientific articles and has a long history of lecturing.

MUDr. Eva Zampachova is Head of the Department of Virology and Bacteriology in the district hospital in Ceske Budejovice. Her work has mainly been in the area of herpesvirus and chlamydial infections. She has had published a series of scientific articles and has lectured for some years.

Current Activities and Future Plans

  • Participation within meetings of the Czech Society of Infectology

  • The varicella working group prepared a retrospective 5-year analysis of varicella (course, complications, therapy etc); all results from this study were presented at congresses in Warsaw (2003), in Prague (ECCMID 2004 – abstract in CMI 2004 suppl.) and Paris (FESCI 2004)

  • Results and information about HVZ primary and recurrent infection: presentation for GPs in Prague, Brno, Czech Republic)

  • Research on – Herpetic neuroinfection – diagnosis by PCR (Dr Soltysova, Charles University, Prague).

Publications

  • Diagnostika a Terapie Infekcí Vyvolaných Virem Herpes Simplex a Virem Varicella Zoster (Diagnosis and Treatment of Herpetic Infections Herpes Simplex and Varicella Zoster) was published in 1997.

  • In 1999, the publication Postherpetická Neuralgie (Postherpetic Neuralgia) was issued for GPs and specialists. This publication was launched at the joint Czech and Slovak Annual Meeting of Infectologists in September 1999 and was distributed widely in the Czech republic

  • Genital herpes is still an under or misdiagnosed disease. To address this issue, the publication Herpes Genitalis Sexuálne Prenosná Choroba (Genital Herpes a Sexually Transmitted Disease) was prepared specifically for Czech gynaecologists. The publication was published in 2000.
