About Slide Lectures

This section is aimed at healthcare professionals. It may be particularly useful for people who educate other professionals about herpesvirus infections.

Several PowerPoint® presentations, addressing specific issues relevant to herpesvirus infections, are available for viewing or download.

Each presentation also has a Word® file containing explanatory lecture notes. We strongly recommend that presentations are always viewed in conjunction with their lecture notes. All slides and notes are numbered for easy reference and use.

These presentations have been prepared by eminent experts and have been reviewed by the IHMF® Board. They reflect the experts’ personal experiences and views at the time the files were posted onto this website, and are not full reviews of the disease area.

For further information on herpesviruses, please visit other sections on this website, such as ‘Monographs and Guidelines’ and ‘Physicians’ Resources’.

Interrupting the Transmission of Genital Herpes
Presented by Anna Wald, University of Washington Virology Research Clinic, Seattle, WA, USA

This slide kit, aimed primarily at clinicians, explains the importance of asymptomatic HSV shedding and how the transmission of genital HSV-2 infection may be interrupted with suppressive antiviral therapy. Methods of reducing/preventing transmission to HSV-seronegative partners are identified and potential future initiatives for halting the spread of HSV are described.

We strongly recommend that the lecture is viewed in conjunction with the lecture notes.
